Our Parks, Recreation and Culture department is currently seeking motivated individuals who are passionate about working with the community to join the team as a Recreation Leader 1.  Typical duties in this position include providing customer service, resolving conflicts and situations involving patrons, enforcing departmental and facility policies, procedures, admission controls, and ensuring required standards of behavior, safety and security are maintained. This position may involve some records keeping and preparation of reports related to activities and inventory, creating signs and promotional information, supports programming, and assisting in the training and direction of staff and volunteers.

Work areas include and are not limited to the following: facility support, camps, access, outdoor playgrounds, and wading pools. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and preferably some related experience, or completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in recreation and sound related community recreation experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain working relationships, along with the ability to organize and promote programs for various groups. Ability to participate in the recruitment of and give guidance and instruction to part-time staff and contractual instructors and to recruit, train, direct and evaluate volunteers. This position requires knowledge of recreational and social interests and of various recreational activities such as sports and arts. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, along with a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate – Level C is required.

Wage: $29.48 per hour with 12% paid in lieu of benefits.
Location: Edmonds Community Centre
Hours of work: Shifts may vary between the hours of 7:00am – 10:45pm, Monday to Friday including evenings and weekends.
