Role
This unionized role provides leadership and supervision to finance team members. This position reports to and is accountable to the Assistant Director, Finance. The Coordinator, Finance acts as a Controller for the organization and is responsible for management and oversight of the accounting, payroll, and financial reporting functions and systems to advise and support strategic decision-making, financial sustainability, and efficient delivery of financial services. This position is responsible for processing and reconciling financial transactions including journal entries, donations, expenditures, and taxes according to established policies and procedures.

Education and Experience Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Post-secondary BSc degree in accounting or business or related fields; AND
  • Completion of a Chartered Professional Accounting designation or equivalent, AND
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, AND
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience, including leading staff, assigning and reviewing work, hiring, coaching, mentoring staff, and managing performance in a unionized environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education, professional designation, and experience may be considered;
    • Equivalent education may include:
      • A post-secondary degree in Accounting and Financial Management, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Commerce.
    • Equivalent professional designation may include:
      • CPA, CA (Chartered Accountant); or
      • CPA, CGA (Certified General Accountant); or
      • CPA, CMA (Certified Management Accountant)
    • Equivalent supervisory experience may include:
      • leading project teams or working groups engaged in complex work;
      • supervising students or volunteers, including assigning and reviewing tasks;
      • leading the implementation of programs and strategic initiatives that involve the management of human and financial resources;
      • coaching, mentoring or developing others.
  • Experience using current financial software.
  • Experience working in a unionized public sector environment is an asset.

 
Details

  • Work schedule: Line 1 – Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Schedule is subject to change based on operational requirements.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required.
