Night Shift Truck Driver Class 3 / Small Equipment Operator (Roads)

This is one position that has two roles throughout the year. Approximately eight (8) months of the year the successful candidate will operate small equipment in the Roads department, the remaining four (4) months of the year will be working as a Night Shift Truck Driver 3.

NIGHT SHIFT TRUCK DRIVER CLASS 3
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Night Shift Foreman or others, this position operates trucks and equipment and performs manual labour to support of the operation and maintenance of roads including snow and ice control, road rights-of-way, storm, sewer, water systems, transportation systems, and flood control systems.

Truck Driving & Other Duties

  • Carries out the work in accordance with established safe work procedures and participates in Occupational Health and Safety activities, tasks, and duties as determined by their supervisor.
  • Operates heavy trucks, heavy equipment, and small equipment.
  • Operates dump truck during snow and ice control operations.
  • May perform labouring duties, as required.
  • Performs minor maintenance repairs to equipment, as required.
  • Performs flagging duties, directs or controls traffic at work sites.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of municipal roads, drainage, snow and ice control routes and methods, plus flood control systems.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Current knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations and requirements as they relate to municipal public works.
  • Ability to work safely and in compliance with the District of Squamish Health and Safety Policy, WorkSafe BC, and WHMIS Guidelines.
  • Practices, participates, and ensures adherence to established safety policies, safe work procedures, regulatory compliance, training, and reporting.
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions and procedures.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to deal with people in a professional manner.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.



REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12
  • Possession of a valid Class 3 B.C. Driver's License with air endorsement
  • WHMIS
  • Certified TCP (Traffic Control Person)

AND

  • 1 years of experience operating heavy trucks and heavy equipment

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

SMALL EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Parks Foreman or Operations Supervisor, operates and maintains light equipment such as tractors and turf mowers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Service
  • Contributes to the success of our team, creation of our community, and delivering outstanding customer service internally and externally by fostering the District of Squamish corporate values in their work: thinking beyond today, working together, acting with courage and enthusiasm, doing the right thing, and striving to do better every day.
  • Follows the District of Squamish’s Customer Service Guidelines to ensure the Delivery of Outstanding Service.
  • Maintains courteous and positive public relations with customers including residents of the community, representatives of organizations and other District staff by delivering quality customer service.
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operates light tractors and attachments, large turf mowers in the performance of parks maintenance and project tasks.
  • Washes, cleans and services equipment.
  • Performs daily equipment inspections and submits inspection reports.
  • Performs the work of a Labourer.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Thorough knowledge occupational hazards and precautionary measures as related to the operation of light maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Sufficient physical strength, stamina and co-ordination to perform heavy manual outdoor work.
  • Knowledge of the methods, practices and tools used in servicing and making adjustments to equipment.
  • Knowledge of field maintenance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to deal with people in a professional manner.
 
REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Grade 12
  • 1 years’ experience in the operation of small equipment.
  • Current Class 3 Drivers Licence.
  • Certified TCP (Traffic Control Person)
  • WHMIS

Hours of Work:                     
40 hours per week, 5 consecutive days.
Night Shift Truck Driver 3 – Current shifts, subject to change, are between the hours of 11pm to 7am, Monday to Sunday.
Small Equipment Operator – Current shifts, are between the hours of 7:00am –4:30pm, Monday to Sunday.
 
Salary:                                     
$34.88 per hour
 
This is a Union position within the Collective Agreement of CUPE Local 2269 and the District of Squamish.
