Put your expertise in project management to use and apply for the Project Manager, Civic Building Projects position! The Project Manager, Civic Building Projects, is responsible for managing, planning, directing, and reviewing the delivery of the City’s civic capital construction program. The position directs and participates on major and/or complex civic projects; prepares design and construction contracts, cost estimates and related materials; arbitrates disputes related to the work; and develops and recommends assigned budgets. You will be involved in the preparation of terms of reference for design and construction proposals from external consultants and contractors; evaluate and select proposals for major projects; review architectural and engineering design work performed by consultants and ensure conformance of contractor’s work to project’s scope, city standard and specifications. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other municipal departments, government agencies, committees, the public and interested parties in providing information and assistance on matters related to the work. Prepares reports to senior management team and Council with information on capital program status, justifications, variance reporting and matters related to the work. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include a degree in Architecture or Engineering, and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in managing the design and construction of large-scale facility projects or tenant improvements in a leadership role and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The role requires thorough knowledge of architectural design, facility planning, engineering and construction principles and practices as well as BC Building Code, the rules, regulations, and policies governing the construction industry; and Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guidelines and standards. Requires the ability to direct the design and construction of a variety of major civic buildings and facilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal, external and a variety of stakeholder contacts; work independently and within a team environment; problem solve; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish priorities and accomplish objectives in a timely manner; lead and resolve contract disputes. The role also requires skill in the use of various software applications such as MS Office, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Project Management software. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
