Snow Removal/Winter Roads Maintenance Equipment Operator

On Call Auxiliary Position
 
The District of Metchosin is seeking auxiliary Snow Removal/Winter Roads Maintenance Equipment Operators on an “On Call” Basis Work schedule - non-continuous (as required). Weather dependent, this position will run from November to March.

POSITION FUNCTION:
Snow Removal, Winter Roads maintenance

KEY DUTIES:

• Monitoring of roads conditions
• Operate snow plow for snow removal, road sanding, salting
• Load trucks and other related duties
• Operate single axle Dump Truck
• Perform routine inspection of equipment and daily maintenance as required

 
Physical Effort:

• Lift and move heavy materials and equipment. (regularly)

 
Work Environment:

• Outdoor, inclement weather (regularly)
• Exposure to equipment noise.

QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

• Current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement
• Previous experience operating snow removal equipment including but not limited to single axle, (manual transmission preferred but not required), air brake equipped dump truck with plow and sanding attachments
• Previous experience operating a backhoe
• Working knowledge of safe operating practices and procedures related to machinery and work sites

Salary range is $34.48 plus 14% in lieu of benefits. The auxiliary members will receive the same overtime rates as regular full-time members regardless of how many hours they have worked for the Employer in a given day or week. This is a CUPE Union position.
