Job Description
The City of Port Moody has a regular, full-time opportunity available for an enthusiastic and experienced Equipment Operator IV to join our Operations Division team.
In this role you will:
- Operate a rubber-tire backhoe in a safe and efficient manner to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s public works infrastructure
- Complete equipment safety inspections prior to and after equipment use
- Help identify work site hazards and participate in daily tail-gate talks
- Work as part of a team and at times may work alongside colleagues and assist with other general maintenance tasks, primarily with the Sewers Department
- As required, may operate other City vehicles requiring a Class-3 license for aggregate material transport or snow removal.
Success includes:
- Becoming familiar with the City’s utility infrastructure
- Contributing to enhanced operation and maintenance levels of service for the City’s wastewater, stormwater collection systems and at times of emergency, the potable water distribution system
- Regular safe operation of City vehicles & equipment and willingness to train & assist co-workers in their development
- Diagnosing critical operational challenges and collaborating with colleagues to find safe and efficient solutions
- Demonstrating an ability to adapt to changing work conditions and levels of engagement depending on various projects and their scope of work.
What you bring:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Five years of experience operating a machinery and mobile equipment as well as experience in operations and maintenance or construction of City owned and third-party utilities
- Open to learning, innovation, and overtime work outdoors in inclement weather
- Possess a strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose mechanical failures and/or potential issues
- An inclination to provide assistance when required to colleagues, supervisors and managers
- A positive attitude to work and enthusiasm to promote a healthy and inclusive work environment in a growing & expanding Operations department
- EOCP certification in Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection or both would be an asset
- Valid Class 3 Driver's License with Air Endorsement is required (if you do not possess a valid Class-3 license but have a test booked, please indicate in application).
