About You / What We Are Looking For
As the Manager Legislative Services, you will have the opportunity to be a key advisor to City Council, senior staff, and the public, providing expert guidance on legislative matters, policies, and procedures. Your leadership will be essential in managing Council Meetings, Public Hearings, and various Council committees, where you will ensure that everything runs smoothly and efficiently. In this regard, you’ll oversee the preparation and timely distribution of Council and Committee meeting agendas and minutes and clerk various meetings. Furthermore, in this role, you’ll be responsible for writing comprehensive reports to Council and offering your expert advice on meeting procedures, making a significant impact on the city's governance and operations. Your work will directly influence the quality of life in Coquitlam, making this a role where you can truly see the results of your efforts.
Reporting to the Corporate Office, you’ll drive continuous improvement initiatives, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. You’ll also lead a dedicated team of unionized staff, including the Legislative Services Coordinator, two Legislative Services Clerks, and a Committee Clerk. In this role you may serve as the Chief Election Officer, managing all aspects of city elections and by- elections and act as the Corporate Officer, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- You will have a post-secondary degree in Political Science, Public Administration Business Administration or related field.
- A minimum of three (3) years proven experience in a similar role within the municipal sector, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- You have strong oral and written communication skills, substantial knowledge of municipal legislative processes, the Community Charter, Local Government Act and other relevant legislation.
- You are a demonstrated leader with supervisory experience and have the ability to build effective working relationships with elected officials, colleagues, and the public.
- You have high attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Willingness to work outside normal hours, including evenings, to attend meetings as required.
What We Offer:
This excluded position has an annual salary range of $122,343 - $137,618. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
