JOB SUMMARY

The On-Call Elementary Teacher will carry out the daily plans set by the regular classroom teacher. For an extended leave, this may include planning according to the yearly overview, and assessing students. The program will be culturally appropriate and will guide and encourage students to develop and program academically, emotionally, mentally, and socially.

Reports to the Vice Principal

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform the regular duties of an Elementary Classroom Teacher who you are filling in for
  • Lesson and Curriculum development and delivery following BC Curricular Content and Competencies as set out by the Ministry of Education for BC for extended leave
  • Follow established yearly overviews, unit plans, and day plans
  • Support the student-centered learning program in place which enhances the explicit programs our school delivers
  • Integrate students with disabilities and challenges in a positive and respectful manner
  • Supervision duties to include; classroom supervision, field trips, after school, & recess/lunch supervision
  • Implement positive discipline when required in accordance with the School Handbook, which includes Conflict Resolution and Restorative Justice
  • Ensure children have a safe and secure learning environment
  • Attend Language and Culture classes daily with students to ensure classroom management and to learn language alongside with students. This includes local outings which may include hiking
  • In case of extended teacher absence, collaborate to complete student report cards and interim reports using school-wide format
  • Perform other duties as required


ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

  • Monitor, record, and report on student learning and attendance
  • Writing reports including First Aid, accident, and behavioral  incident reports
  • Become informed on IEP students needs
  • Follow all guidelines as outlined in the Behavioral Cultural Immersion School Parent-Teacher Handbook


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Education, or equivalent
  • Valid BC teaching certificate issued by the Teacher Regulation Branch
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at an elementary level
  • Ability to teach multi-grade classes (grades K5-7)
  • Experience working with First Nations preferred
