Fire Chief


Regular Part-time

Gold River, a quaint coastal village located in central Vancouver Island, blessed with not only a beautiful village but also a sense of community and a quality of life second to none. Gold River is an outdoor mecca for adventure at all times of the year with our incredible recreation opportunities. The Village Aquatic Center includes a 5-meter swimming pool, sauna & hot tub, and a lazy river with a bubble pool for toddlers. In addition, the Village hosts racquet courts along with a weight room, fitness center and rooms for aerobics and yoga classes complemented with an Arena Complex which contains a community hall and both a curling and ice rink.

The Village is seeking an energetic and qualified individual for the part-time (0.5 Full Time equivalent) position of Fire Chief for the Gold River Volunteer Fire Department.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Fire Chief oversees the administration, direction, and control of all aspects of the fire department including fire suppression, training, and fire prevention activities ensuring compliance with legislated codes and Village bylaws and policies. Also administers applicable local and provincial fire regulations. The position is also responsible for overseeing the coordination and implementation of the Village’s emergency management program.  This position is required to be on‐call and may be required to work long hours during emergency situations. Evening meetings, and training are regular features of this role. Experience in training volunteers is a must.

This is a part-time exempt position and a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience. The annual salary for this position is dependent upon the qualifications, experience, and certifications of the successful candidate but is anticipated to be in the range of $45,000 - $60,000.
