Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the CEO, this senior leadership role is integral to the management and oversight of key programs, including the Training, Resources, and the Certificate of Recognition (COR) Programs, along with other special projects. The Director ensures that the evolving needs of the BCMSA community are met fostering positive relationships across all user groups and acting as a strategic advisor. The Director will play a crucial role in the development, execution, and continuous improvement of our programs, ensuring alignment with BCMSA’ s strategic objectives and adherence to industry standards. As a key leader within the organization, the Director must be an excellent communicator, capable of articulating complex ideas clearly and effectively to further BCMSA’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Strategy: Provide senior-level leadership in managing services and processes that enable BCMSA to achieve its operational and strategic goals. Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership team to develop operational plans and annual objectives for key program areas.
- Program Management: Develops and oversees the comprehensive delivery of the Training, Resources, and Certificate of Recognition (COR) Programs, ensuring quality assurance and compliance with WorkSafe BC and industry standards.
- Partnership Engagement: Serve as a leader for internal and external partners, while fostering a just and safe culture where individuals can thrive. Collaborate with BCMSA’s members, the Board of Directors, working groups, contractors, consultants, and committees, to support the organization’ s mission.
- Project Management: Lead and manage programs, initiatives, and special projects that support BCMSA’s strategic goals. Leverage technology and innovation to enhance data analytics and decision-making processes.
- Financial Oversight: Support the development of the departmental budget, ensuring alignment with BCMSA’ s financial goals and objectives. Oversee program, initiative, and project budgets, monitor performance indicators, and ensure cost-effectiveness. Responsible for contract negotiations and maintaining strong relationships with external consultants and partners.
- Team Leadership: Provides guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Ensure staff development and performance management align with organizational goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Completion of post-secondary degree or diploma is preferred in a relevant discipline. Equivalent combinations of education, skills, and experience will be considered. Professional accreditation (CRSP, CSP, CIH, ROH, CPHR, CDMP or similar) or the ability to achieve these accreditations is desirable.
- Experience: At least seven years of recent related experience leading people, programs, and initiatives with a minimum of five years in a senior management role. Experience with the principals of Occupational Health and Safety is an asset.
- Skills: Awareness of health and safety principles, adult learning methodologies, strong business acumen, and relationship building. Exceptional leadership and project management skills, with the ability to navigate complex and changing environments. Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively convey information and ideas to a wide range of audiences, both internal and external.
