This is skilled work in the operation, minor maintenance and servicing of a variety of medium, mobile construction and maintenance equipment. Typical equipment includes street sweepers, mechanical (Wayne, 4 yard capacity, Elgin Whirlwind), rollers power - over 8 ton and up to and including 12 tonnes; Graders, small - maintenance, (Huber M-650) (4b rate while on construction); Compactors, rubber-mounted (Bros. Browning S.P.R.I.); truck; Ford 5000 - Flail Mower; small backhoe used in the installation of maintenance and drainage systems. Considerable independence of judgment and action is required in making field decisions. May be required to perform minor supervisory duties which are incidental to the production duties an incumbent performs, and to assist one or more subordinates performing various duties related to the operation of the equipment. The successful candidate will be required to accept standby and call‐out work assignments and operate a vehicle performing snow and ice control work. Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation, considerable experience in the operation, servicing and maintenance of medium to heavy construction and maintenance equipment. Good knowledge of municipal street layout and departmental operations. Thorough knowledge of the rules of safe operation and the precautions to be taken to avoid accidents in the operation of medium-sized equipment. Ability to write simple records, reports; plan work in order to operate machinery efficiently, effectively; perform manual work involving considerable physical endurance; supervise one or more subordinates performing unskilled and semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with air brake endorsement is also required.
