This is operational and building service work with limited supervisory responsibilities at Eileen Dailly Pool. An incumbent assigns and participates in the work of subordinates engaged in aquatic and building maintenance work; checks, adjusts and operates a variety of equipment necessary to ensure the water quality and effective operation of the facility; performs routine inspection and maintenance of filtration systems, boilers, and related pool equipment; performs janitorial and custodial duties. Instructs staff in the proper and safe use of aquatic equipment and janitorial supplies and equipment. Records gauge readings and reports malfunctions to a supervisor. Requisitions, stores, and distributes janitorial supplies; monitors cleanliness and sanitation of facilities; performs minor repair and servicing on building, equipment, locker locks and facilities, as required. Completes time sheets and equipment inventory records; prepares routine documents, as required. Ensures for security; answers patron inquiries; provides routine information and assistance to the public, as required. Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical training and sound related experience in the operation and maintenance of aquatic facility equipment plus some supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of operating procedures of water heating, boiling, filtration and chlorination equipment, and the methods, practices and materials used in the operation of aquatic facilities. Sound knowledge of applicable occupational hazards and safety precautions; and of materials, methods and equipment used in building maintenance work. Working knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems applicable to the operation of aquatic facilities and equipment. Ability to assign, check and organize the work of subordinates; to operate, maintain and make minor repairs to equipment typically used in aquatic facilities; to understand and follow oral or written instructions; to work with minimal supervision; to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, patrons and user groups, and to deal tactfully and firmly with same in ensuring observance of facility policies and procedures; and to prepare and maintain related records. Skill in the use of and care of a variety of tools and equipment used in the work. Pool Operator Level 2 Certificate is required.
