Senior Water Operator

The Resort Municipality of Osoyoos, BC, located in the beautiful south Okanagan Valley, is accepting applications for the position of Senior Water Operator. However, those with lesser qualifications are encouraged to apply as we will consider hiring lower-level positions.
 
Position Information
Reporting to the Utilities Superintendent, this full-time unionized position will support the Operational Services department by participating in the operation and maintenance of the Town’s water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. The primary focus will be water, but the successful applicant will be required to participate in other areas of operation and maintenance as required. This position has supervisory aspects and works alongside the other water and wastewater operators.
 
The Senior Water Operator will schedule, assign, and assist with work tasks and maintenance programs outlined by the Utilities Superintendent. The Senior Water Operator will assist in developing work procedures, oversee, and participate in development and capital projects. The Senior Water Operator will mentor other operators and ensure they are performing best practices and following developed safe work and standard operating procedures.
 
The preferred candidate will have graduated High School, Water Distribution Level III, with a Water Treatment Level II, or a Water Distribution Level II, with a Water Treatment Level III Wastewater Collection Level I, Wastewater Treatment Level I, Chlorine Handlers Certificate, and a valid BC Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brakes Endorsement. The preferred candidate will have 10 years of water and wastewater experience, preferably in a municipal setting. Experience in a senior operator role is preferred. The Senior Water Operator must be able to respond within 30 minutes to a call-out.
 
The Town would consider a Water/Wastewater Operator Level 1 or Water Operator Level 2 position or provide a development opportunity for an Operator in Training for the right candidate if the required qualifications cannot be met for the Senior Water Operator position.
 
The hourly job rate for the Senior Water Operator is $39.25- $43.61, Level 2 Water Operator job rate is 36.80 - $40.88, Level 1 Water/Wastewater Operator is $35.03 - $38.92 per hour and the Operator in Training is $31.92 - $35.47. These are full-time unionized positions that include a benefit package, hours of work are 40 hours/week and are required to work weekends, overtime, and on-call as operationally required.
