This is supervisory work involving installation of water services for residential and commercial users. The Foreman 1 – Waterworks plans, schedules, assigns, inspects and may participate in the work of truck drivers, equipment operators and labourers. Directs the operation of heavy equipment including trucks, loaders, backhoe diggers, cranes, pumps and compressors, and requisitions and allocates supplies and equipment. The incumbent investigates public complaints within the jurisdiction, disciplines and motivates employees, determines priorities, establishes work norms and devises safe work methods. Other responsibilities include preparing elementary time sheets, records, damage reports and other reports as required, responding to emergency calls during off-shift hours when “on call” and acting for the City in processing employee grievances and/or submitting confidential reports in connection with grievances. The incumbent may be required to give evidence on behalf of the Corporation at formal hearings and before arbitration boards. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by related technical courses plus sound related experience, including some experience in a supervisory capacity, or, an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the work along with considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions related to work. The Foreman 1 – Waterworks will have the ability to plan, schedule, inspect, assign, supervise and review the work of subordinate crews; direct the operation of heavy equipment; read blueprints, sketches, plans and diagrams and prepare and maintain a variety of records related to the work. An incumbent will have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and have skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and equipment used in the work. A EOCP - Water Distribution Level I Certificate and Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia are required.
