The District of Sooke has a permanent employment opportunity for an Engineering Technologist II however, the District may consider an Engineering Technologist I. Reporting to the Manager of Engineering and Infrastructure, this position is responsible for the planning, design, financial control of engineering projects and the on-going co-ordination of various programs such as the infrastructure asset management system related to municipal engineering infrastructure. Work may include the supervision of contractors, contract tendering, co-coordination of work activities with public and private utilities, developers, and regular contact with community representatives, elected municipal officials, and members of the public. Considerable latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative is required in all phases of the work.
To be considered for the Engineering Technologist II, applicants should have the following qualifications:
- A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain registration as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) in BC.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ related engineering experience including three (3) years of related experience within a municipal government.
- A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and a current Driver Abstract.
- A satisfactory Police Information Check.
To be considered for the Engineering Technologist I, applicants should have the following qualifications:
- A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain registration as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) in BC.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ related engineering experience.
- A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and a current Driver Abstract.
- A satisfactory Police Information Check.
Additional consideration may be given to applicants with the following qualifications:
- A combination of engineering experience and education.
- Experience with SharePoint Online, Tempest, and Adobe Pro.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
This is a CUPE Local 374 position. The 2023 rate for the Engineering Technologist II is $45.58/hour, Engineering Technologist I is $41.23/hour, plus an excellent benefit package.
