Job Description Social PlannerThe Social Planner supports the development and implementation of the City’s social planning program, with a particular emphasis on establishing and meeting the City’s diverse housing needs.  This is a regular, full-time opportunity.

The Social Planner will act as a liaison with other levels of government and service providers to encourage the involvement of Port Moody in partnerships for providing social / non-market housing in the City.  This position will support local non-profits in the development of their plans for enhanced social service and housing provision, building relationships, advocating for and developing policies to ensure community needs are met.  The Social Planner conducts research, reviews development applications with affordable housing components, and presents recommendations to Council, Committees, Boards and other community groups and agencies. This position advises senior staff and Council on appropriate roles for the City, preparing bylaws, policies and reports to guide City action.

Basic Qualifications:
    •Master's Degree in Planning and membership, or eligibility for membership, in the Planning Institute of BC (and / or the Canadian Institute of Planners) 
    •Minimum three years of related planning experience, preferably in a municipal setting 
    •Sound knowledge of principles, best practices, techniques and methods applicable in affordable housing / social planning, particularly at the local government level 
    •Ability to perform professional research and analysis duties and express ideas effectively in both oral and written form to a variety of audiences 
    •Effective project management, communication, facilitation, negotiation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills 
    •Ability to be creative and exercise sound judgement in a fast-paced work environment while managing multiple tasks 
    •Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts while employing contemporary service excellence principles
