The City of Coquitlam is looking to hire Recreation Instructors for our early years (0 – 5 years), school aged (6 – 10 years), and youth (11 – 18 years) recreation programs. This is recreation work involving leadership responsibility for planning, implementing and leading a variety of social, cultural, sport, and general interest activities as assigned by a supervisor. The successful candidates will be responsible for safe and proper use of equipment and facilities and taking independent action and initiative in leading and instructing assigned programs.
 
The successful candidates will be team players with excellent communication and people skills. You are enthusiastic, personable, energetic and outgoing, and have a passion for engaging with members of the community. Candidates must possess valid current First Aid and CPR ‘C’ certifications. Other applicable certifications such as High Five, ECE certification and NCCP are considered assets. Recreation Instructors will have experience leading recreation programs in a municipal setting and/or the equivalent related instructing, coaching and volunteer experience. Please note that a valid BC Drivers License or equivalent would be considered an asset.
 
Requirements:

  • Candidates are required to be available to work mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
  • Shifts are varied throughout the year and programs run out of different facilities in the City.

The rate of pay for this position varies, depending on experience and area of specialty. The range of pay is $20.40 - $30.60 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits. Prep-time is compensated in addition to teaching time. Applicants under consideration may be required to undergo a police information evaluation and vulnerable sector check (with no adverse reports).
