About the Opportunity:
The Public Works Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill a temporary auxiliary Refuse Collector Truck Driver/Labourer position until December 31, 2023 (with the possibility of extension). Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, this role involves working at least three days as a Refuse Collector/Truck Driver and two days as a Labourer. As a Refuse collector the incumbent will perform manual labour tasks in collection of household refuse and food waste including the operation of a refuse truck. The current truck has a side lifter that assists in dumping the waste into the truck, some physical lifting of cans at bus stops. As a Labourer the incumbent will be responsible for performing manual labouring functions on a variety of projects such as, helping in forming for concrete projects, screeding, and finishing concrete; assisting in asphalt application, digging trenches; cutting concrete and asphalt and laying sewer pipes.

Our Preferred Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have their current and valid class 3 BC driver’s licence with air endorsement and their current and valid class 5 B.C driver’s licence. Preferably with two years of related experience as a labourer or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Salary: $30.87 hourly plus 14% in lieu of vacation and statutory holiday pay (2023 rates)
Hours per week: 40, for a temporary three-month term until December 31, 2023 (with the possibility of extension).
