The City of Abbotsford is pleased to share that it has a unique opportunity for an experienced public works operations leader to join its team as Director, Parks and Facilities. Reporting to the General Manager, Operations, the Director provides strategic leadership, direction, and management to a group of operations professionals responsible for Parks, city facilities, urban forestry, trails and cemeteries.
The Parks and Facilities Operations division is busy year-round; it comprises approximately 55 employees, excluded and union, and sits within the Operations Department. With the support of four Managers, Facility Maintenance, Parks Natural Infrastructure, Urban Forestry and Parks Built Infrastructure and Cemeteries, the Director is responsible for efficient operation and maintenance of Parks and Facilities services throughout the City.
The successful applicant will be an experienced and knowledgeable professional who can inform strategy, while being sensitive to everyday operations. You will be responsible for developing long-range maintenance plans and capital programs, integrating evaluation tools and techniques across the portfolio to support assessment and evaluation activities, establishing key performance indicators, performance and progress monitoring systems, data collection and analysis strategies that support optimal Operations, ensuring strategic initiatives and their related budgets have clear priorities and are designed and implemented as planned.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and proven leader with a reputation for being an experienced manager who can lead, motivate and engage a diverse team of professionals and coach and mentor for future succession. They will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, allowing them to build credible and trusted relationships with their team, contractors, and throughout the City, along with providing expert advice, support, and guidance to their team, external committees, and residents.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Degree in Engineering, Building Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Park Planning, Building Science, Urban Forestry, Hospitality Management, Business Management or another related discipline.
- Applied Science Technology, Professional Engineer or other related designation is an asset.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive-related experience with a minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience, preferably in local government
