Description

This is administrative and technical work related to the development, maintenance and implementation of the City’s facilities maintenance program. An incumbent develops the preventive maintenance and repair program; prepares long-term life cycle cost analyses for key building components and makes recommendations to management on capital replacement schedule for the purposes of budget planning; reviews and monitors facility capital and operating maintenance programs; researches and compiles information related to costing and facility use changes; coordinates the preparation of facilities maintenance capital plan submissions; provides input into operating budget requirements for preventive maintenance and repair for all City Buildings and ancillary equipment; coordinates and schedules minor capital renovation and component replacement projects; liaises, collaborates and consults with facility management colleagues, users and managers in the development of future improvement programs and schedules; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff and external contacts such as consultants, contractors, developers and other agencies; develops, prepares and maintains a variety of records, reports and databases related to the work. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include diploma program in building or architectural technology including or supplemented by related courses, plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the preventive maintenance program, methods, materials, and equipment related to building structures, fixtures and ancillary equipment. Considerable knowledge of the bylaws, codes and regulations related to buildings and ancillary equipment and of departmental policies and procedures applicable to the work performed. Sound knowledge of engineering drafting methods and practices. Working knowledge of the various trades involved in building repairs, renovations, and general maintenance of buildings and ancillary equipment, including mechanical and DDC systems. Ability to prepare preventive maintenance schedules for all City Building structures, fixtures and ancillary equipment; prepare, monitor and control project and operating budgets and time and material requirements and costs for preventive maintenance and repair of all City buildings and ancillary equipment; act as project manager for a wide variety of preventive maintenance and minor capital projects and to coordinate the work of City staff or outside contractors. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
