Senior Engineer - Transportation
The City of Mission is looking for a Senior Engineer to oversee the planning and implementation of traffic and transportation programs, transportation planning and design projects and initiatives of the City.
In this role you will supervise and provide technical leadership to a team of transportation technologists ensuring the overall quality of work and achievement of business goals and objectives in the transportation area. This position is also responsible for updating and implementing the City’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP).
You will lead the planning, analysis, design and implementation of sustainable transportation facilities including: pedestrian crossing improvements; intersection safety improvements which prioritize walking, cycling and transit; transit priority measures; various cycling facilities including protected bike lanes, multi-use paths, and shared facilities; and traffic calming measures. You will also conduct planning, technical analysis, evaluation and design of road safety, Transportation Demand Management (TDM), Transit Oriented Development (TOD) and new and emerging forms of mobility modes. You will plan and support capital projects (planning and design) and identify strategic opportunities to increase sustainable transportation modes.
You will need your excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills as you represent the City to both internal and external stakeholders. Your business sense and financial acumen will assist you in developing and monitoring budgets, contracts and business plans. Your knowledge of legislation and regulatory regimes will help you ensure the City’s compliance to these regulations.
As the ideal candidate, you will have a bachelor degree in civil engineering (or a related discipline) supplemented by education in transportation engineering specifically in the areas of traffic and transportation design, construction and operation of transportation systems and project management.
You will be registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or be eligible for immediate registration. Consideration will be given to professional engineers registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). Five years of solid, progressive municipal transportation engineering design, construction and project management experience in an engineering consultant or municipal government environment is required.
