POSITION OVERVIEW
Are you interested in an exciting opportunity in a growing community and contribute to making a direct impact? We are currently hiring for a Transportation Technologist. This is a senior technical role that will be responsible for the development and administration of the City’s transportation engineering program, long-range capital project proposals, prepares or reviews designs of traffic control systems and facilities and provides information and recommendation on policies and practices and also to various committees, internal and external stakeholders. You will also be responsible for administering assigned capital projects. You will also be responsible for coordinating related construction and installation work and providing supervision to one or more technical subordinates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Civil Engineering, with transportation and traffic option, registration as A.Sc.T. certificate preferable, plus considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, techniques and equipment used in traffic engineering operations.
Thorough knowledge of the applicable departmental rules, regulations, policies, procedures, by‑laws and provincial regulations related to the work performed.
Considerable knowledge of engineering design principles and practices related to the work.
Sound knowledge of computer techniques and processing procedures related to the work.
Ability to develop and administer the City’s traffic and transportation program and administer assigned capital projects.
Ability to recommend and develop traffic policies and practices, develop capital works project proposals, and recommend related programs and projects.
Ability to obtain, summarize and interpret data and prepare a variety of technical reports and recommendations and to design traffic control systems and related installations and to prepare applicable specifications, maps and drawings.
Ability to develop and implement communications plans for transportation and traffic capital projects.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to represent the department on municipal and regional committees.
Ability to supervise one or more technical subordinates engaged in related work.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Skill in the use and care of instruments and equipment used in the work.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
Class 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
