Development and Environmental Engineer

The Town of Comox is seeking a dynamic Development and Environmental Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Development and Environmental Engineer is responsible for the planning, organizing, direction and control of engineering infrastructure with respect to new development. The position will focus on environmental initiatives and regulations within the Town of Comox, and the ideal candidate will exercise independent judgement and discretion around complex matters related to engineering, environmental and subdivision issues associated with new development. This position will be responsible for providing guidance and mentorship to staff and will work closely with the Planning Department.
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- University degree in engineering with P.Eng. designation, or an equivalent combination of experience and education;
- Considerable post P.Eng. experience (3 - 5 years) in the field of land development and planning, some of which should be in a local government environment;
- Experience as an Approving Officer or completion of LGMA/MATI Approving Officer training courses would be considered an asset;
- Experience in Environmental Engineering would be considered an asset;
- Considerable knowledge and background in project and contract management, with Project Management Professional (PMP) designation considered an asset;
- Knowledge of BC Building Code principles, and in particular, BC Energy Step Code;
- Knowledge of evolving subdivision case law and the relevant Provincial statutes and regulations;
- Strong organizational, management, leadership, and communication skills;
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License; and
- Clean Criminal Record Check
