Park Technician – Park Structures (Carpentry)

SCOPE
In this position you will perform supervisory and technical work in planning, coordinating, and supervising the work of crews and contractors. Working within the budget, this position is responsible for projects and programs, including preparation of plans, schedules, reports and inspections. The Park Technician will perform hands on field work in all weather conditions, prepare annual and seasonal work plans for assigned functional responsibility area, based on section goals and objectives; perform fieldwork in accordance with accepted standards, techniques and practices; manage programs and projects within approved budgets; administer contracts for work with the Parks Division.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities may include:
- completing advanced carpentry repairs and renovations, using portable and stationary tools such as, circular saw, mitre saw, table saw, planner, jointer along with other associated carpentry tools.
- This would include, but is not limited to the repair, renovation and replacement of park structural assets, including buildings, bridges, boardwalks, stairs, bleachers, benches, picnic tables and other wood and non-wood related building material assets, as well as other related trade duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of a Degree or Diploma program in Building Technology, Construction, Engineering, Relevant Trades or related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a minimum of 3 years related experience or Completion of grade 12 supplemented by a relevant Trades Qualification supplemented by 3 years of related progressive experience or
Completion of grade 12 and a related Technical Certificate Program (one year full time) from a recognized post- secondary institution with additional related academic courses and training supplemented by 4 years of relevant progressive experience. Related experience preferred will include construction experience in the field of carpentry. An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Candidates must possess superior public relation and interpersonal skills including dealing with others in stressful situations, strong organizational skills and be physically able to carry out the duties as required.
You will use your advanced problem-solving skills to effect on-site resolution of project related problems. Your thorough knowledge of applicable statutes and regulations will ensure your success in this role. Other responsibilities include the maintenance of work-related records and maintenance of records pertaining to the status of projects.
You must have a valid B.C. driver’s license with a safe driving history. This position requires completion of a Police Information Check/Vulnerable Sector Check. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
