The City of Port Coquitlam’s Public Works Division is looking for energetic, enthusiastic and motivated individuals to work with City crews in various sections of the division including streets, utilities and solid waste. This is semi-skilled work engaged in a variety of activities within the various sections of the division including public works, utilities and sanitation.  The majority of work involves physical effort and agility performing a diverse range of labour related duties.

Casual employees are typically assigned to cover temporary increased workloads, vacation or absence relief. Incumbents in assignments are guaranteed forty (40) hours of work a week for the duration of the assignment.

If the following characteristics and skills describe you, we want to meet you!

  • Have one year of previous municipal experience related to public works maintenance tasks; such as garbage collection, streets maintenance, vegetation control, utilities maintenance and/or experience in civil construction projects

Alternatively, you have six months previous experience and have successfully completed Water or Wastewater Operator course, or Introduction to Public Works

  • Have a positive can-do attitude
  • Have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (Class 3 with air endorsement would be an asset).

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement. The 2022 rate for this casual position is $31.50 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
