Engineering Technologist - Development & Public Works

The Town of View Royal is seeking a highly organized, customer focused Engineering Technologist who demonstrates great attention to detail with the ability to plan and prioritize effectively. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this position reviews, interprets and approves infrastructure construction designs related to land developments and subdivisions. The Engineering Technologist position performs a variety of duties such as:

• Reviews designs and construction works for civil engineering works related to land development including subdivisions and assigned capital projects;
• Assists the Director of Engineering in reviewing detailed calculations, servicing reports related to subdivision and land development;
• Conducts site visits for design review purposes and inspection during development of offsite works;
• Corresponds with engineers, surveyors, developers, and property owners on engineering related issues, including sanitary sewer, drainage, trees, pathways, water supply and access;
• Reviews reports and test results on soil, traffic, street lighting, capacity of sanitary sewers, storm drains, arborist tree plans, water systems and other engineering-related matters, and provides recommendations;
• Reviews and approves boulevard improvement permits, tree permits, driveway crossing permits, oversize vehicle permits, street construction permits, street occupancy permits, and street use permits in conjunction with the Development Services Department and Building Division;
• Provides engineering technical support and information on development and capital project related issues;
• Coordinates with government agencies, developers, contractors, consultants regarding existing/future works;
• Performs field inspections as required starting from design to construction to acceptance (warranty) of works;
• Conducts site visits, investigations and creates work orders to support the public works maintenance of the Town’s infrastructure.

 
The successful candidate will have a two-year diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent related experience; minimum three years in the civil/municipal engineering field specifically related to the design, operation, maintenance, and construction of municipal infrastructure; and a valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
