The goal of the City of Burnaby and its employees is to consistently deliver first class service and services to our community. With this in mind, we hire people who share the same passion, those with the drive and determination to grow with and contribute to our already exceptional team. People like you!

The City of Burnaby is currently seeking auxiliary Museum Interpreters (Indigenous) for the Burnaby Village Museum. As a part of the programs department, this position assists with interpretation, education, demonstrations, activities, tours and various programs onsite or in the Learning House - the Indigenous Education space. The successful candidate may aid in the development of new programs, as directed, and support the work of the Educators in the Learning House. Museum Interpreters prepare supplies and equipment for programs, and perform related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 or equivalent culturally relevant work, supplemented by related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The ideal candidate has experience delivering education programs or is familiar with working with groups of individuals. While having sound knowledge about the local Indigenous Nations and Coast Salish History and Culture is key to this role, there will be opportunity to expand and learn from the Museum Education Programmer and Indigenous Educators. Experience in customer service work or working with the public in a museum or related facilities is preferred.  The ability to communicate effectively verbally and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and visitors is required.

Shifts for this auxiliary position vary from 2 to 4 days per week and are based on our operational requirements. Ideally, your availability for this role will be during the weekdays, weekends and occasionally evenings. Our season at the Burnaby Village Museum runs from May through August and from late November through to early January. On occasion, there is work outside of these seasonal openings.
