ABOUT THE ROLE
The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking enthusiastic and experienced summer program leaders to deliver quality summer day camp experiences. Specifically, we are looking for Leaders for Express Youth Camp, which requires a current CLASS 4 Driving License. We are also looking for Inclusion Leaders. Inclusion Summer Leaders work directly with children three to fourteen years of age with diverse abilities.
Express Camp is a roving camp that goes on daily out trips between Campbell River and Duncan in the RDN’s 15-passenger van but is based out of Oceanside Place Arena in Parksville. Inclusion Leaders may be based at any of our core camps in Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and the northern Regional District of Nanaimo Electoral Areas.
Reporting to Recreation Coordinators, Summer Leaders assist in planning, leading, and adapting summer day camp programs for children five to fourteen years of age. Summer Leaders provide the day-to-day operation and leadership of day camp programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and general knowledge of recreation programs, summer day camps, and guiding children’s behaviour are essential. Incumbents must possess and maintain a current first aid (Emergency First Aid or Standard First Aid or Emergency Childcare First Aid) and CPR B or C. Express Camp Leaders must hold a current Class 4 Drivers License.
POSITION DETAILS
These are temporary (up to 40 hours per week) positions. The (2023) rate of pay is $23.25 per hour, plus 9% in lieu of benefits including vacation and statutory holidays.
These positions require some physical work; working outside with exposure to all types of weather conditions; and accompanying children in the water when swimming.
Please Note: All new employees working with vulnerable sectors are required to complete a CRC prior to their start date.
SKILLS/EDUCATION
- High School Diploma
- Minimum 1-year prior job-related experience working in a leadership role with children preferably in recreation
- Ability to safely and effectively supervise children and youth
