The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for auxiliary Cultural Worker VI – Cultural and Heritage Programs Instructors (various disciplines including Indigenous Arts, Culture and Story, Multicultural Safety and Awareness, Nature Based Learning, Arts and Crafts, Painting, Drawing Sculpture, Poetry, Film, Music, Theatre, Dance and New/Digital Media) to join our team of professionals in the Arts, Culture and Community Initiatives Division, Cultural Programs and Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, Arts and Culture and/or individuals of the curatorial team, in this unionized position you will apply your knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise to demonstrate and instruct group classes for participants of all ages, abilities and interests. This position will appeal to applicants who have strong leadership and communications skills and are committed to excellence in customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and provide guidance, direction and instruction to groups, participants and students
  • Ensure safe and proper procedures are followed


Qualifications:

  • Your experience will include a combination of education (minimum Grade 12) with knowledge, skills and abilities in the specific disciplines related to our program offerings; some programs may require that candidates possess a diploma and/or degree in their speciality area
  • Ability to organize, lead and participate in cultural and heritage programs and activities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with participants, staff and volunteers


Shortlisted candidates may be asked to provide a portfolio of their work, examples of their art and craftwork or videos of their performances/demonstrations.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a Position of Trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a Police Information Check as a condition of employment (not required as part of the application process, however, will be required upon consideration for employment).

The hours of work are varied, including day, evening and weekend classes; Non-standard hours and/or non-standard work weeks. The rate of pay for this position ranges from $21.00 to $54.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience, plus 4% in lieu of benefits.
