Regular Full-Time – Pay Grade 7 ($32.53 – $34.44/hour – 2023 Rates)

The Financial Services and Asset Management team are pleased to be recruiting an experienced Payroll and Benefits Clerk to support the accurate and timely preparation, calculation, and completion of payroll for all staff across the municipality. The Payroll and Benefits Clerk performs moderately complex clerical work related to the preparation, calculation, and completion of payroll for all municipal staff using an external computerized payroll system. The position handles the interpretation and administration of a comprehensive employee benefits program, communicates with employees and benefits plan administrators, and is responsible for preparing related reports and records. Working closely with the District’s Payroll and Benefits Coordinator, this role requires considerable independent judgement and adherence to strict deadlines to be exercised in day-to-day activities, while more complex problems or policy matters are referred to management. The District of Oak Bay currently has three union agreements and an exempt employee group.
Our ideal candidate has graduated from high school, is enrolled in the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Program with a minimum completion of Payroll Fundamentals 1 through the National Payroll Institute, with a minimum of three years of recent related payroll experience, accurately producing payroll through computerized payroll preparation in a unionized environment. This position is represented by CUPE Local 374.
