Main Purpose and Function
The City of Pitt Meadows is accepting applications from qualified individuals to join our public works team as a Maintenance Worker – Utilities. This role will provide qualified candidates an opportunity to work in and across a diverse portfolio of facilities and spaces in the City.
 
Qualified candidates will be assessed based on their skills, knowledge and abilities, and may be selected for an interview should they meet the qualifications and requirements of the position.
 
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The City of Pitt Meadows is seeking a versatile and skilled individual to perform a diverse range of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and servicing of municipal infrastructure, primarily concerned with utilities.
 
Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, this position performs skilled pipe laying and pipefitting tasks on water, storm and sanitary sewer mains and related projects including the installation of fire hydrants and water meters. Duties could include maintaining, cleaning, operating, testing, and performing routine repairs or adjustments on items such as pumps, valves, hydrants, pressure-reducing valves, trash screens, recording devices, and controls.
 
The incumbent may also respond to service requests and emergency trouble calls related to water or sanitary and storm sewers including services, mains, manholes, and valves. The incumbent may operate equipment such as a backhoe or tandem dump truck and provides direction to subordinates performing less skills work.
 
 Excellent communication skills are required while communicating with members of the public and contractors. We are looking for a positive individual able to make meaningful contributions to our existing team. Applicants must possess the physical stamina to work outdoors in all weather, have excellent interpersonal skills, and embrace our vision of maintaining and enhancing Pitt Meadows’ natural beauty.

Qualifications
The successful candidate is required to have:

  • EOCP Waste Water Collection – Level 1.
  • EOCP Water Distribution – Level 1.
  • High school diploma and completion of courses related to the work plus considerable experience as a Truck Driver in general maintenance and construction work, as well as experience related to installing, maintaining and servicing municipal infrastructure; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Unrestricted Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement for the Province of British Columbia.


This is a full time CUPE position with a salary of $32.14 per hour, plus benefits.

The city offers additional compensation for:

  • EOCP Waste Water Collection – Level 2 ($100 per hour)
  • EOCP Water Distribution – Level 2 ($1.00 per hour)
  • Cross Connection Control ($ .50 per hour)
  • The City may match vacation entitlements of current.
