Are you an outgoing, creative, detail-oriented and customer service focused individual interested in advancing the City’s environmental programs? If so, we are currently offering an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Outreach Assistant in our Environmental Services Division.
 
In this exciting role you will work with residents and City staff to improve their knowledge and understanding of provincial regulations, regional and City bylaws, programs and initiatives and other environmental functions with a focus on solid waste management. Your primary duties will include planning, producing and delivering educational content through different media including the City’s Curbside Collect App, answering public and staff enquiries related to solid waste service compliance and environmental matters; providing information to public and staff in a variety of forums and locales including community events. This role will be in constant contact with the general public, the ideal candidate will enjoy engaging with residents and community groups on environmental topics. Secondary duties include supporting data collection, processing and analysis, supporting curbside contamination reduction activities along with delivering education, products and promotional material door-to-door.
 
Your strong communication and relationship building skills will be essential as you provide information and assistance to the public and collaborate closely with the solid waste and environmental service team. You will utilize your organization and time management skillsets to prioritize tasks, complete projects and respond to customer service inquiries in a timely manner. You will implement best practices in community based social marketing and harness your creativity to develop innovative outreach programming to engage the public on solid waste management and other environmental topics. 
 
As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by post-secondary courses in Marketing, New media, or related field.
  • Two years’ experience in customer service, public speaking, conflict resolution and marketing content creation.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Class 5 Drivers Licence

 
This position is unionized, C.U.P.E Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is $25.06 to $29.48, working 20 to 34 hours per week.
