ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a highly motivated, team-orientated individual to join our Ministry of Education – Early Years programs team as a Child Care Coordinator.

Reporting to the Provincial Child Care Manager, the primary purpose of the Child Care Coordinator is to partner with early learning and childcare services and program, Métis families and communities throughout the province and provide consistent, distinctions-based, and Métis led delivery of childcare supports and services. To increase the availability and accessibility of high-quality childcare resources and services that support the needs of Métis children and families.    

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes the Ministry of Education – Early Years programs, Affordable Child Care Benefit Program (ACCB ), Métis Child Care Benefit (MCCB) Program and other child care related services in the community.
  • A Métis specific program bridging Métis Child Care Navigation Services to remove barriers and increase accessibility to culturally safe child care for Métis families and children that will support BC’s distinctions-based approach to Indigenous child care.
  • Assists Métis families in reducing barriers to applying for the ACCB and Métis Child Care Benefit Program. Providing information sessions on the ACCB program and how to apply for it to parents and guardians.
  • Broad service deliverables would include training, consultation and collaboration, communication, outreach, information and referral for families, providers, ECEs and other community members.
  • Liaises with MCFD and other government agents involved in implementation of the ACCB program.
  • Acts as a liaison for families to provide consistent, distinctions-based, and Métis led delivery of child care supports and services including but not limited to child care referrals, consultation and education on choosing quality child care.
  • Responds to enquiries from parents and guardians seeking child care, and makes referrals to local Child Care Resource and Referral programs and other child care services based on the parents’ and child’s specific needs.
  • Assists in the recruitment of Registered License-Not-Required (RLNR) child care providers.
  • Provide professional learning opportunities, workshops and networking learning (Good Beginnings) for child care providers that includes Métis traditional teachings based on Métis pedagogy and the Métis Core Values.
  • Implements, and monitors recruitment, assessment, training, and support strategies for Métis RLNR child care providers.
  • This individual will work collaboratively with the Ministry of Education Team, Métis families and Métis Chartered communities.
  • Knowledge of early years’ organizations, agencies and service providers.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook - adaptability and flexibility are essential.
  • Actively participate as a critical member of the Ministry of Education Team to create solutions that advance the successful, efficient and effective delivery of MNBC Métis early years programs and services.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education, Community Support Work, K - 3 Education or related field, and
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the early years’ field or public-school system
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the Childcare BC Plan
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge and/or awareness of the historical and contemporary contributions made by Métis people in B.C.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to utilize, adapt and embrace new technologies, including Word, Excel and other database/software required by the role
  • Previous experience working in an Indigenous Community, with strong knowledge of Métis culture and history, is considered an asset
  • Combination of relevant experience, education, and training will be considered.


OTHER COMMENTS

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to help ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.
  • There will be a need to attend meetings and events which may require work and travel outside of the normal business hours.
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license and access to reliable personal vehicle for work purposes.
