This is aquatic work in lifeguarding and instructing, on an assigned shift, at our Fred Randall Pool Edmonds facility. An employee in this position performs a variety of operational, instructional and lifeguarding duties in accordance with established practices and procedures, exercising tact and firmness in creating an enjoyable and safe aquatic environment for all patrons. Performs lifeguarding duties ensuring the safety of patrons utilizing the aquatic facility and supervises the use of the 25m lap pool, leisure Pool, whirlpool, waterslides, sauna, steam room and other related areas. Conducts instructional and recreational aquatic programs, including Aquafit classes, for all age ranges and abilities including providing information to the public regarding instructional evaluation techniques and patron progress. The incumbent performs related custodial and janitorial duties as well as minor scheduled maintenance tasks with respect to pool water, facilities and equipment. Prepares and maintains a variety of related records and performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, supplemented by courses in lifesaving, aquatics and pool maintenance, plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A minimum two years’ experience as a Lifeguard/Instructor - Aquatics is considered an asset. The following certifications are required for the position: Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate – Level C, and BCRPA Basic Fitness Leader - Aquafitness awards. Occupational First Aid Level 1 or 2, Pool Operators Level 1 or 2, Lifesaving Instructor, Lifesaving Examiner, National Lifeguard Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor Trainer, Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer are desirable.
