This is skilled technical work in maintaining the performance of the City’s computer infrastructures (network, server, or cloud). Under the general direction of a supervisor, an incumbent of this class performs tasks related to sustaining the performance and security of related infrastructures and the configuration and deployment of infrastructure software and hardware, ensuring the functionality and efficiency of local and wide area infrastructures as well as troubleshooting infrastructure hardware, software and related problems. Responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing system and infrastructure performance and effects changes to increase the system’s efficiency and to support specialized technologies and integrated voice and data technologies; investigates and resolves infrastructure hardware, software, and operating system problems which affect the performance of the communications and storage infrastructures; prepares and maintains system and infrastructure security and capacity plans; designs or revises changes to storage, infrastructure and communications architecture in response to changing requirements; integrates and supports the development of on premises and cloud- based disaster recovery practices and failovers. Performs related work as required.  

Qualifications include graduation from an institute of technology with a diploma in computer systems technologies with specific courses related to communications and network systems plus considerable related experience, including infrastructure management experience, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of storage and local and wide area infrastructure technologies and standards, server and workstation operating systems, hardware platforms, firewalls and configuration options. Considerable knowledge of problem definition and solution techniques applicable to the work performed. Considerable knowledge of infrastructure security practices and techniques including firewall configuration and maintenance. Ability to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of the City’s computer networks and to implement remedial actions as required. Ability to investigate and resolve operating system and infrastructure hardware and related component problems as related to the work performed. Ability to test and evaluate infrastructure application software and make recommendations regarding standard configurations. Ability to act as project leader regarding the enhancement and implementation of systems and information technologies and to establish priorities, schedule workload to meet deadlines and project objectives. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff and external contacts. Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
