ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a highly motivated, team-orientated individual to join our Senior Management team as Senior Director, Operations.

The Senior Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer, the primary purpose of the Senior Director, Operations is to provide leadership and direction to support the operations, administration, and facilities management initiatives led by the department and/or delegated by the organization. The position develops, implements, evaluates, and refines organization-wide policies, systems, and processes to ensure consistent operational and service excellence. The position is responsible for ensuring that the teams are supported, running smoothly, and have a clear understanding of work goals and objectives. The   position exercises a considerable amount of independent judgment and discretion in directing operations to ensure that policies and processes are current, and projects are delivered in a quality, timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. The position will work in partnership with MNBC departments and ministries and will ensure that employees have a safe and healthy place to work.
 
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations, Administration, and Facilities

  • Regularly keeps the Chief Operating Officer (COO) apprised of all pertinent issues, information for effective decision-making, and creates or provides input for the preparation of short and long-term workplans, strategies, and other briefing materials.
  • Provides advice and recommendations to support strategic and operational decision-making taking a continuous improvement approach.
  • Participates in building and/or leading the implementation of operational and administrative business processes.
  • Leads the development and implementation of strategies that support MNBC’s current and future growth in alignment with MNBC’s cultural values.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of operational policies, standards, guidelines, templates, systems, and procedures to establish operational planning and reporting objectives.
  • Establishes and leads committees that provide leadership, current technical and process expertise and coordination for multilateral initiatives and projects; and advises on development of projects, plans and work plans involving multiple work units, and/or external entities.
  • Develops and implements MNBC’s Hybrid and Remote Work Strategy including relevant policies and procedures, agreements, digital tools, and rollout across all MNBC offices.
  • Ensures facilities plans and projects comply with safety, security, and environmental standards.
  • Develops a tracking and reporting mechanism for all lease agreements and leased equipment, negotiates new/existing leases as required, and prepares reports, communications, or schedules as required to manage and maintain facility operations.
  • Identifies potential partnerships with Chartered Communities, First Nations, and/or other interested stakeholders to engage in cost recovery or shared service models with mutual benefits.
  • Oversees the work for Business Continuity Planning and Emergency Preparedness Plans for all offices.
  • Maintains the policies and standards of MNBC operations manuals, Health and Safety guidelines, and completion of critical incident and safety reports, and WorkSafe BC safety standards for all offices.

 
Project Management

  • Leads the delivery of major projects that involve overseeing project teams, sub-projects and/or have multiple delivery components (e.g., construction, operations, service delivery) in accordance with project management standards.
  • Develops and determines project goals, objectives, and outcomes to align with the direction of the organization; including the appropriate resourcing levels (e.g., staff, contractors, budget) to deliver on time and on budget.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the departments mandate.

 
Stakeholder Development

  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with government, First Nations, stakeholders, and organizations to coordinate the provision of services, influence where appropriate, foster partnerships, initiate agreements, and collaborate on mutually beneficial opportunities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of local, provincial, and federal services, resource persons, and significant initiatives of importance to MNBC and the community; openly shares and distributes this information with staff, other service providers, clients and the community as appropriate.
  • Works with the Intergovernmental Relations team to identify contacts and interactions with other levels of government.
  • Seeks out funding sources and prepares grant or funding proposals that support the ongoing work of MNBC’s operations, programs, and services.
  • Ensures all reporting expectations are fully satisfied.

 
Supervision

  • Supervises staff including assignment of work, development and evaluation of performance plans, approval of leave, response to grievances and initiation of discipline processes.
  • Determines and identifies staffing resources, succession planning, and training needs for the team.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • A post-secondary degree in a related discipline such as Business or Public Administration, Operations or Facilities Management, or another related field and at least five (5) years related experience in a similar organization. Preference may be given to those with a graduate degree.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of project delivery experience, including managing projects and developing strategies and initiatives to achieve results. In addition, demonstrated experience managing positive and organizationally beneficial stakeholder relationships in a complex and politically charged environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in writing complex policy documents and/or funding and grant proposals; community development approaches and service delivery; cross cultural experience; and solid knowledge of select program areas.
  • Knowledge and/or awareness of the historical and contemporary contributions made by Métis people in B.C.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to lead, problem solve, and utilize team-building skills.
  • Proven ability to utilize strong interpersonal skills to deal with others effectively
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to utilize, adapt and embrace new technologies, including Word, Excel and other database/software required by the role.


OTHER COMMENTS

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to help ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.
  • There will be a need to attend meetings and events which may require work and travel outside of the normal business hours.
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle for work purposes.
