Description
This is administrative, public relations and planning work at semi-professional level interpreting the zoning by-law, improving development design and processing preliminary development plans. Under technical direction from the Administrative Planner, an incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgement in creating and encouraging a high standard of development throughout various stages of a building project. Their work may be reviewed during progress, upon completion or on appeal from their decisions. Advises land developers, building owners, their representatives and members of municipal departments of the pertinent zoning by-law sections; interprets zoning by-law when specifics are not mentioned; illustrates application of zoning by-law. Prepares replies to zoning and preliminary plan enquiries; forwards typed reply to superior for approval and signature. Represents Planning Department at inter-departmental meetings, as required. Trains and directs activities of an assisting Development Plan Technician I. Performs related work as required.
Completion of three years university training in architecture, plus experience related to the work in an engineering, architectural or planning office; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and judgement in order to establish and maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments with contractors, the general public and departmental officials; ability and skill to convince others of importance of raising standard and character of developments in the municipality above the minimum acceptable level. British Columbia Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
This is a temporary full time position until March 28, 2023.
