North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is dedicated to building healthy individuals, families, and communities. We offer a wide range of recreation and cultural programs and services to residents of all ages and abilities. We are looking for positive, enthusiastic and friendly individuals to deliver memorable experiences to our customers.

You will be an integral part of our dedicated staff team who continually strive to make a difference in the recreation and cultural lives of North Vancouver residents. NVRC values employees, offering a competitive wage and a great working environment. We are currently looking for Visual Arts Instructors to lead programs for adults and children in a variety of art mediums. 

If you have experience teaching and practicing any of the following: drawing, watercolour painting, acrylic painting, or mixed media or you would like to propose another art medium for children, youth or adults, please connect with us through this application process. Please note that we are hiring arts instructors and not arts organizations/businesses.
You are committed to community and love working in a creative team environment utilizing your leadership and people skills. You will plan developmentally appropriate activities and instruct while maintaining a safe environment to engage participants to expand their interest in art. You are an excellent communicator with a positive, energetic and enthusiastic attitude.
  • In-depth knowledge of techniques and processes in your art medium
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills 
  • Proven ability to create and implement lesson plans
  • Ability to build a rapport with students, parents of students, and staff
  • Ability to be flexible in a dynamic environment 

Candidates must have a degree or diploma in Visual Arts or 2 years of Visual Arts education and related experience. Previous teaching experience is considered an asset.
All instructors working with children must have a current Standard First Aid certificate and HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development training (available online through BCRPA).
All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
Hours may vary and instructors should be prepared to work days, evenings and/or weekends at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location. Shifts include additional preparation and clean up time.
North Vancouver Recreation and Culture is proud of the quality programs offered and the fun atmosphere staff enjoy while working with children, youth and adults of all abilities.
HOURLY RATE: $20-$34 per hour based on training & experience, plus 4% in lieu of benefits
