We have an exciting opportunity in our Lands and Facilities department! The Civic Development Project Manager is responsible for the feasibility assessments and preliminary design for major civic building projects ranging from new building construction to major renovations throughout the City. The successful candidate is someone who holds knowledge of: architectural design, engineering and construction principles and practices as well as the rules, BC Building Code, regulations, and policies governing the construction industry; and a solid understanding of Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guidelines and standards.
You act as project manager on retaining consultants and coordinating preliminary work on major civic building construction and/or major renovation projects; oversee, schedule and direct the work of technical staff, architectural and engineering consultants, and include public engagement and stakeholder input. This role also prepares terms of reference for design and construction proposals from external consultants. Evaluates and selects proposals and tenders for major projects; reviews and approves architectural and engineering design and drafting work performed by consultants and ensure conformance of contractor’s work to city standards and specifications. Conducts field inspections; monitors and evaluates the work of technical subordinates, consultants and contractors; reviews and approves change orders; Prepares complex technical reports for Committees and Council; project specifications and budgets; and assists the legal department in matters pertaining to agreements between the City and contractor. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include degree in Architecture or Engineering with a Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng) with a minimum of 10 experience in project management and/or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. We are seeking someone with strong leadership skills to act as project manager; establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts; work independently and within a team environment; problem solve; communicate effectively orally and in writing. The role also requires skill in the use of various software applications such as MS Office, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Project Management software. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
