As a City, we provide facilities and services that support a safe, connected, inclusive, healthy and dynamic community. With this in mind, comes great responsibility – we seek likeminded individuals who are passionate about the community, work with integrity and respect, and are innovative when it comes to the work and services Burnaby provides to our citizens.

Are you a driven Project Management professional looking to make a City-wide impact? Interested in leading a dynamic, skilled and enthusiastic team? Then our Senior Manager Civic Development Management position might be for you!

We have a management opportunity in our newly formed Lands and Facilities Department. Reporting to the Director of Civic Building Project Management Office, you’ll have a leadership role in the recruitment, performance management, training and coaching of your staff. You’ll direct the work of technical staff, architectural and engineering consultants, as well as contractors in the preliminary planning for construction, renovation and repair of City buildings and facilities. You’ll also determine the suitability of layout, accuracy, economy and conformance to municipal standards of City buildings. Preparing complex technical reports and budgets, as well as acting as a point-person between multiple departments, contractors, consultants, the public, and senior government on major municipal projects will also be part of your purview. You’ll perform related work as required.

You’ll need to be a clear communicator and a good listener as you’ll be directing and supervising staff, as well as acting as a representative of your department and the City. An organized and efficient way of working is also beneficial since you’ll need to establish priorities and goals for your team. You’ve also got the ability to make informed decisions to complex technical problems, as well as an analytical mindset to assess and interpret plans and contracts. You’re also able to work well on your own as well as part of a team.

In order to qualify, you’ll need a degree in Architecture and be a member of or eligible for membership in the Architecture Institute of B.C. OR a Degree in Engineering with a professional Engineering designation (P. Eng), plus 15 years of related professional experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. You also have a thorough knowledge of architectural design and construction principles and practices, as well as engineering practices and procedures, along with a knowledge of building costs, materials, methods and practices.
