The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for auxiliary Recreation Workers IV – Fitness Room Attendants to join our team of professionals in the Recreation Division, Recreation Programs and Services Department. Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, in this unionized position you will oversee the facilitation, conduct and day-to-planning at a variety of fitness centres/weight rooms throughout the community. This position will appeal to a well-organized individual with excellent customer service and communication skills.


  • Provide guidance, direction and instruction to facility users, including orientations and fitness evaluations
  • Assist in program development for health and fitness and recommend changes as required
  • Ensure safe and proper use of equipment/facilities and ensure equipment is in good working condition
  • Provide information and advice to recreation facility users and ensure compliance with regulations governing public conduct
  • Prepare and maintain records, requisitions and activity reports
  • Perform related work as required


  • Completion of Grade 12 and skill training in speciality programs plus courses in community recreation, leadership and/or conflict resolution, sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Sound knowledge of community recreation principles, practices and objectives
  • Ability to organize, lead and participate in recreation programs and activities
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective communication with program participants, recreation staff and volunteers
  • Personal Training Certifications, Practicing BCAK Kinesiologists or CSEP Exercise Specialists are considered assets

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a Police Information Check as a condition of employment (Note - not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

  • BCRPA Weight Trainer (or equivalent)
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR Certification

Applicants are advised that it is a condition of employment with the Township that a successful candidate provide proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Note: proof is not required as part of the application process, however, will be required upon consideration for employment.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $23.91 - $28.00 per hour (5 steps; 2020 rates), plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
