The Town of Cochrane is located in the breathtaking Bow Valley corridor in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in southern Alberta. The Town of Cochrane is excited to recruit for the position of Manager, Parks & Open Spaces! Our Parks and Open Spaces team proudly maintains over 500 hectares of the Town of Cochrane’s land as parks and open spaces. Residents and visitors enjoy nearly four dozen parks (many with playgrounds), summer fishing in trout ponds, outdoor skating in winter, and over 80 kilometers of pathways all year round. Parks and Open Spaces also maintains three cemeteries, many sports fields and dog off-leash areas.
 
The Manager, Parks & Open Spaces will connect issues management and build systems to support the team and the important day-to-day operational work being done at the Town. You will lead a team of diverse, passionate Operators seeking guidance and opportunities to respond to the growth of our municipality while aligning with the strategic vision of the future.
 
You will bring ideas on work activities, direct and guide projects, and seek input from technically competent and knowledgeable Operators and stakeholders. You are comfortable working with established objectives and processes, and have an interest in exploring new, faster or better approaches to improving performance to reach goals and meet schedules. There are opportunities to grow and rebuild the team, holding those accountable and preparing for future growth.
 
The Manager is responsible for the overall operation, planning and fiscal responsibilities for designated Town owned parks, open spaces, pathways, cemeteries and athletic fields. They have knowledge and understanding of the Cochrane region and its natural open space. They proactively identify and pursue opportunities, and lead collaborative initiatives and relationships with stakeholders, community groups. They share their knowledge of planning and development while ensuring all Town standards, policies and procedures are adhered to and maintained to provide a safe work and leisure environment for both staff and residents.

The ideal candidate will have proven career progression within a parks and open spaces field with knowledge of legislation that guides parks and open spaces operations and maintenance in Alberta. We value self-driven professional development and will be looking for a candidate who has advanced their education and leveraged their experience to ensure technical and human-centered excellence. For this position, a degree or diploma in the areas of Turf Management, Horticulture or Business Management would be advantageous.
