This position will also oversee records management and serves as the Head of the Public Body under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
The Corporate Officer is a Statutory Officer that performs all related statutory functions and is responsible for leading Legislative Services. The Corporate Officer provides professional advice to Council and other City departments in areas of expertise including corporate administration, regulatory and public hearing processes.
The successful candidate will have public sector experience in corporate administration, regulatory and public hearing processes combined with exemplary communication and interpersonal skills. This individual manages the election process to ensure all statutory requirements are met. As a highly motivated, self-starting person you also bring exceptional technical, leadership abilities and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate has worked in a similar capacity within a local government alongside elected officials and senior leaders, providing advice and guidance based on relevant regulations and legislation through a lens of public accountability. They bring a high level of independent judgment and action in planning and implementing the work of Legislative Services.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional leadership, judgement, and interpersonal skills and the proven ability to develop credibility and effective working relationships with employees, elected officials, and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as Public Administration supplemented by an Intermediate Certificate in Local Government Administration or Statutory Administration
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar municipal or public sector with extensive knowledge in corporate administration and regulatory services, including 3 years in a management supervisory role
  • Considerable knowledge of the Community Charter, Local Government Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Parliamentary Procedure, Regulations, Bylaws, Statues, and other applicable Acts
  • Considerable knowledge of the LGMA Records Management System
  • Experience handling highly confidential information with discretion and integrity
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers License
  • Experience operating in and/or managing in a unionized environment would be an asset
