As the Manager, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, you'll lead the charge in establishing the corporate equity, diversity, inclusion and race relations policy. Your work will have far-reaching impact, influencing all facets of People and Culture across the City. You'll be researching the most up-to-date diversity practices, creating and monitoring programs for their quality and effectiveness, and establishing a cross-departmental team that advises on equity, diversity and inclusion across the City. You'll also work as a senior-level advisor to our Directors, Supervisors, and Management Committee. This is fast-paced and dynamic work where the challenges reap great rewards. Performs related work as required.
As you'll be engaging with many people on sensitive issues, a high degree of emotional intelligence is needed. Being able to read people, listen attentively, and adapt your communication style is essential when discussing issues like biases and representation. A creative mindset with a passion for life-long learning is also a must. You'll need to constantly be learning new tools and implementing them as our organization changes. Creative solutions for a changing world should be your mantra.
To qualify, you should have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Human Resources focused on equity, diversity and inclusion studies or a related field with a minimum of seven years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You need to know the principles, practices, developments, and trends related to equity, diversity and inclusion. You should also have a thorough knowledge of the principles of municipal government structure and processes. Other abilities you should have include being able to supervise, coach and motivate. Conducting thorough research is within your wheelhouse, as well as anticipating trends and creating innovative strategies. You can also develop and deliver effective and informative training. You also work well with others and can maintain effective working relationships with various people. Strong communication skills, both orally and written, is a must. You also have the ability to work with various computer applications. A Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
