TEMPORARY POSITION

Director of Corporate Services

Vulcan County invites applications from energetic, experienced, and innovative leaders for the temporary position of Director of Corporate Services with duties to commence as soon as possible with the term expected to conclude on April 22, 2022. The position is required to report to the Vulcan County Administrative Office (in Vulcan, Alberta) Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm.

As the Temporary Director of Corporate Services, you will assist in leading our Corporate Services Department, including the areas of Finance, Audit, Information Technology (IT), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director of Corporate Services is responsible for the overall financial activities of the organization, reporting, and overseeing an annual Operating Budget of approximately $18.4 million and a capital budget of approximately $6.1 million. This position is a key member of the Senior Management Team, participating in policy development and strategic planning. Applicants must have a graduate level university degree in finance/accounting, or equivalent, and must have a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS);
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Leadership in implementing exemplary business operations, financial management, operating/capital budgeting, and strategic resource allocations;
  • Skills and knowledge in contractual agreements, risk management, and project management;
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems (experience with Great Plains, Caseware, WorkTech, and Questica software is an asset); and
  • In‐depth knowledge of municipal government activities, functions and governing legislation. Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) is an asset.
