Or created something special at one of our arts classes? How would you like to oversee these types of programs and make a City-wide community impact? Then apply to be our Arts Services Manager!
We’re looking for someone with great vision who can imagine arts and cultural programming that involves and excites the citizens of Burnaby. You’ll hold great influence by planning, developing, coordinating and overseeing programs and events for the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, city-wide arts activities and cultural community partnerships. Heard of the Festivals Burnaby Community Festival and Events Grant Program? You’ll oversee these, as well as a wide range of dynamic cultural activities. Your superior organizational skills will be given an opportunity to shine as you’ll oversee the day-to-day operation of various arts facilities. Your skills in outreach will be highly prized as you’ll initiate marketing and fundraising activities that speak to the community. You’ll also be responsible for developing and monitoring budgets for facilities and programs and you’ll act as one of the public faces of arts and culture at the City. You’ll be required to perform other related work.
You’ll find great success in this position if you can combine an artistically captivating vision for our arts programming while having the practical skills to make this vision a reality. Your vision should focus on community involvement and arts awareness that is inclusive and takes into account the wide diversity within the City of Burnaby. Being well-versed in artistic practice in varying disciplines is also a plus. Because you’ll be overseeing many different people and programs, your responsible, organized and dedicated personality, along with your top-notch communication skills, will be incredibly valuable. And, most importantly, your passion for the Arts should reverberate widely through your staff and programs!
In order to qualify, you should have a Master’s degree in fine arts, art history, cultural resource management, arts administration or a related discipline, considerable experience or equivalent combination of training and experience. This is especially important as we’ll rely on your knowledge of best industry practices in developing and delivering community cultural programs that are effective, impactful, and well-run. You should also have experience with managing cultural facilities effectively and efficiently. As much of your work will involve communicating with City employees, artists, and members of the public, you should be a strong and inspiring communicator, both verbally and in writing, who’s adept with the Microsoft Office Suite. You’ll also be required to have a Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
