The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Zero Waste Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager, Sanitation, Recycling & Cemeteries, the incumbent contributes to effective planning and operation of Sanitation Services through development, design, delivery, administration, and coordination of Solid Waste Collection and Waste Reduction programs and policies that meet the City’s goals of zero waste. The incumbent uses data sources in conjunction with Federal and Provincial Environmental guidelines, the Regional District of Nanaimo’s Solid Waste Management Plan and best practice to bring about positive change. Working with a variety of stakeholders, including internal staff, outside organizations, residents, and Regional District staff to align goals, objectives and plans, the Zero Waste Coordinator will tackle barriers to zero waste in the community.
Applicants must have a diploma in Environmental Science or a related discipline and a minimum 2 years’ demonstrated experience with environmental policy analysis, program development, public outreach, and consultation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required for this position.
This is a unionized position. $36.28 per hour - after Probation (Jan 2021 Rate), based on a 40 hour work week. A comprehensive benefit package is included. The wage level for this position is subject to confirmation under a union/management jointly negotiated job evaluation plan.
