The City of Ottawa Transit Services operates the OC Transpo system. OC Transpo works to provide a safe, reliable, comfortable, courteous and affordable transit service for all. The service manages the City's multi modal system providing 100 M passenger trips annually on its Bus, Rail and Para Transit System with a staff of 3,000 employees, 900 Buses and a new state of the art LRT system that is the busiest line in North America. Both Ottawa and OC Transpo underwent a major transformation with the opening of O-Train Line 1, the Confederation Line, in 2019. The transformation continues with a major expansion program underway -a $5 B dollar P3 program expansion to the LRT network is bringing 44 kilometres of rail and 24 new stations. When complete, Stage 2 will bring 77% of residents within five kilometres of rail and a total of 41 LRT stations.
Reporting to the City Manager and a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the General Manager is accountable for providing vision, leadership and strategic direction to Transit Services. The General Manager, plans, directs, and improves the delivery of Transit Services, ensuring business strategies, policies, services, and operations align with the vision and priorities of the corporation and Council, and reflect sensitivity to customer/client needs and political issues. The General Manager facilitates the development and implementation of cross-departmental synergies and corporate-wide organizational effectiveness, strategies, and policies in collaboration with other members of the Senior Leadership Team, the City Manager and City Council. Representing the City to the public, media, and external stakeholders is a key responsibility all while developing harmonious and collaborative relationships.
With your university degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience in a municipal or corporate environment, including a minimum of 5 years managing human resources, external contract resources, operating and capital budgets you are skilled at leading and developing teams in large complex organizations. You are experienced in the provision of service to the public in the operations of multi modal transit bus and rail services. You have honed your political acuity in high profile and publicly accountable roles and have demonstrated integrity in your actions. You have successfully led P3 initiatives while working with a wide range of stakeholders. A collaborative team member and relationship builder, you are skilled at clearly communicating and leading others to achieve goals. Given your experience in public transportation development, service planning, project management, financial and human resource management, you’re well-positioned to take on Canada’s fastest growing transit authority.
