This is clerical and custodial work of some complexity performed in the RCMP equipment room. An incumbent of this class tracks, receives, issues and stores a variety of weapons and police equipment; ensures equipment is in working order; maintains an adequate level of equipment and supplies; identifies equipment and supplies to be ordered; prepares equipment kits for members and prepares and maintains records, files and reports. Maintains a variety of weapons and equipment such as charging, troubleshooting and conducting minor repair on portable radios, calibrating approved screening devices, sending the conducted energy weapons for testing and downloading; assists in packing and sending weapons and equipment for major repairs and examining ammunition for quality control purposes. Provides information and assistance to auxiliary staff. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of the 12th school grade supplemented by courses related to the work plus sound related experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the various types and use of weapons and police equipment required by RCMP members; of safety regulations for the handling of weapons and related police equipment. Ability to use software including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software to access and/or create spreadsheets and maintain statistics and related data; to work under minimal supervision, to exercise sound judgement in accordance with applicable rules, regulation, and policies; to multi-task and to perform effectively during peak periods. Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and items. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia and valid RCMP security clearance are required.
