The City of Abbotsford’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is looking for a seasoned professional to join their team as a Park Planner/Designer. Reporting to the Manager, Parks Planning, you will support the short and long term planning and development of parks and other greenspace in Abbotsford.
In this challenging role, you will utilize your experience to develop conceptual plans and specifications, prepare contract documents and coordinate the construction phase of park development projects. You will also prepare, review and assess long term planning proposals; recommend use of consultants for park development projects; and assist the Parks, Recreation and Culture Department in park planning activities. Your strong communication and relationship building skills will serve you well as you conduct public meetings regarding park development proposals and represent the department to a wide range of municipal agencies and public groups on parkland development and related land use issues.
You will also utilize your data collection and analytical skills as you research a variety of data pertinent to park planning issues and prepare recommendations on the same as well as updating and monitoring the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan and other parks related planning reports to present to Council.
In order to be considered for this position you must have:
- Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning or other related discipline.
- Five years’ related experience in urban or environmental planning or the design and management of landscape construction projects from conception to completion.
- Membership or eligibility for membership, in the Canadian Institute of Planners or; Registration in the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects or membership in the BCSLA as an Intern with a commitment to become registered in an agreed upon time frame.
- B.C. Class 5 Drivers Licence.
This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $41.66 to $48.98.
